Lakes

Stampede & Boca Reservoirs

Stampede Kokanee Img

Stampede Reservoir is about 15 miles northeast of the town of Truckee, situated high in the Sierra Nevada mountain range between Reno and Sacramento.

Both of these lakes offer quality kokanee fishing, plus fishing for trophy rainbow and brown trout. Stampede also has a fairly large population of mackinaw.

The Little Truckee River feeds both Stampede and Boca lakes, with Boca the downstream reservoir. That stream also offers excellent fishing opportunities for trout anglers, and is prized as fly-fishing water.

The closest lodging is at Truckee, though Reno and Tahoe City are both within reasonable driving distances. These lakes offer a great day of enjoying the natural beauty of the area for travelers visiting these famous vacation areas.

Eagle Lake, Lake Almanor and Lake Davis

Eagle Lake is one of the premier rainbow trout fisheries of Northern California. Thanks to a rich bio-mass, a shallow nature, and cool year-round water temperatures, Eagle Lake is perfect for growing lunker rainbows.

In fact, the strain of native trout in Eagle Lake is a top choice of aqua culturists offering premium-planting programs throughout the state. Anglers don't have to settle with catching planted Eagle Lake rainbows, though, the natural home of these fish provides a top fishing adventure. Rick Kennedy of Tight Lines Guide Service is an experienced guide on Eagle Lake. Your trip with Tight Lines Guide Service will offer you the opportunity to fish with the best equipment and an excellent guide.

Lake Almanor is fed by both the North and Hamilton Branch Forks of the Feather River. The crystal clear water provides a home for trophy sized rainbow and brown trout, as well as land-locked Chinook salmon.

Almanor is one of the few lakes in California that sports a Hexagenia fly hatch, which is the largest member of the Mayfly family. During the hatch, lunker browns raise from the bottom to feed on the Hex nymphs, emergers, and adult flys - a fly fisherman's dream!

When it comes to wide-open rainbow trout fishing, Lake Davis is the place to be. This lake was treated for northern pike in 1998, and then restocked with rainbows weighing into the teens. The trophy size of the planted fish wasn't the only attraction... this lake was jammed full of "keeper" sized trout in an attempt to restore the fishing to pre-pike days.

Bullard's Bar Reservoir and Collins Lake

Collins Lake is well stocked with trophy size Rainbow Trout. This lake is very well managed, and has great camping facilities for your enjoyment!

If you've ever fished at Bullard’s Bar, you know about its beautiful emerald green waters and excellent fishing. If you haven't fished here yet, you will be delighted at the great catches of kokanee during the summer months, as well as rainbow trout and even a few brown trout.
